Precision MTF simulator by Dr. Abdel Rahman Abuzaid, MD · powered by Paolo AI · oculoplasty.app
Every parameter unlocked. Continuous pupil aperture from 2.0 to 6.0 mm, keratometry 35.0-49.0 D in 0.1 D steps, corneal asphericity -1.00 to +1.00 in 0.05 steps, full through-focus MTF, and the complete lens catalog. No premium tiers on physics.
MTF retained at 10, 20 and 50 cpd across a ±4 D deflection range. Solid = 10 cpd, dashed = 20 cpd, dotted = 50 cpd. Depth-of-focus is computed from the 20 cpd curve at the 0.10 threshold.

Methods & assumptions
This simulator computes the modulation transfer function of a pseudophakic eye from first principles, with no lookup tables and no canned frequency points. The model is a radially symmetric schematic eye with a 17 mm reduced-eye focal length evaluated at 550 nm.
Corneal optics. Corneal spherical aberration is scaled from population reference data as Z40 ≈ 0.37 × (1+Q) µm at a 6 mm pupil, with a curvature correction of (43.5/K)³ for keratometry K. Corneal asphericity Q spans -1.00 to +1.00.
IOL optics. Each lens carries a representative published optical profile: a spherical-aberration contribution and, where applicable, a diffractive order structure (distance / intermediate / near adds) modeled by energy-weighted coherent superposition of wavefronts.
Computation. The complex pupil function is evaluated on a 384×384 grid, and the OTF is computed by direct complex pupil autocorrelation at each spatial frequency, the exact incoherent-imaging relation for this radially symmetric system. The PSF is computed by a 256×256 FFT of the pupil function. MTF is normalized to the zero-frequency OTF.
Metrics. Strehl is the ratio of the defocused PSF peak to the aberration-free peak at the same pupil. MTF50 is the first spatial frequency where MTF falls to 0.5 at distance focus. Depth of focus is the deflection range containing zero where through-focus MTF at 20 cpd stays at or above 0.10.
Limitations. Lens profiles are representative values from published literature and brochures, not manufacturing data; individual lenses vary. Higher-order aberrations beyond primary spherical aberration, chromatic aberration, decentration, tilt and pupil shaping are not modeled. Clinical decisions must not be based on simulation alone.
